End of Month updates

American Govnernment students will be working on the fundamentals of the Constitution next week. They will continue to work towards the US Constitution exam later in the semester.

Sociology students are working on the Socialization unit. Next week's topic is the role of media. Reminder about the Ad project that is due on October 11.

IB Psycho's will have their biological level of analysis exam next week on October 4 & 5. All students will need a blue book for this test. We will then start the Cognitive unit.

End of August

Greetings to all! I hope your week is off to a great start and school is continuing to go well for you.

American government students will be working on Missouri government all week. We have an inclass assignment on Tuesday 8/30 that is homework for anyone not finishing. Likewise, our plan is to test Missouri Constitution on Wednesday 9/7. Reviews will be assigned no later than Friday of this week.

Sociology students have an observation project due tomorrow 8/31. We are working on culture this week. Wednesday we are in the LMC locating urban legends. The end of the weeks topic is the paradigms used in studying sociology. Intro Test will happen no later than next Thursday 9/8.

IB Psycho's are working on psychological research. IE. learning the process used by psychologists specifically. The reading for the week out of the text is p. 17-37. Two additional readings will be forthcoming on Tuesday out of the 40 Studies book that will be due on Friday 9/2. Descriptive Research projects will also be launched on Friday in class. More information TBA. History/Research quiz will happen next week as we won't be ready by this Friday.

Updates

Hope all is well - school is definitely off to a good start! American Government classes have started their Missouri State government studies. We will complete an in class assignment over Missouri history/ background on Wednesday 8/24. Students that don 't get it done will have homework that night due the next day!

Sociology students have an observation project due on 8/31. Extra credit if it is typed. Their intro assignment out of the book will be completed in class on Thursday 8/25. We plan to finish the week with Freaks and Geeks!

IB Psycho's have completed a historical background of psych. Reading page 1-16 out of the text has been assigned. We are considering the case study of Temple Grandin for an in-class socratic seminar later this week. This case study will serve as a basis for all of first semester.

Welcome Back Titans!

Hope you all enjoyed a terrific summer vacation and are excited for the upcoming school year! I know you are pumped up if you are part of the class of 2012!!

This week is a short week and in all classes we will cover the syllabus and the usual getting to know each other type activities. American Government students need to get a government specific folder purchased asap. IB Psycho's biographical introductions are due on Monday, August 22.

I will update this blog weekly (for the most part) and hopefully this will be helpful to you. Best wishes for a super school year!

Tests, Tests, and more Tests!

IB Psycho's are in full study mode this week. Our IB exams are next Tuesday and Wednesday 5/3 and 5/4.

American Government students are working toward our US Constitution Exam on May 10. And the EOC exams, required by the state, are May 11 for Seniors and May 15 for the juniors.

Sociology students will take their crime unit exam on Wednesday 4/27 and the take home essays will be due on Friday 4/29. Crime portfolios are due on Monday May 2, 2011.

Start of March through Spring Break!!

American Government students have been working for two weeks to complete the Development of Democracy Unit. Quiz on that scheduled for March 4. We will spend the last days prior to spring break completing an over-view of the Constitution including the Bill of Rights.

Sociology II has started the Crime Unit. Our first guest speaker is today March 3. We also have a speaker next Thursday, 3/10 and a crime scene activity on Friday 3/11. Each of these items will be included in their crime portfolio to be submitted in April.

IB Psycho's survived their Internal Assessments! I will be grading them for the next few weeks. We are studying about Abnormal Psychology, which is our last unit for the school year. Learning to Be Depressed is due on Friday March 4. Reading for next week will be p. 148-165.

Hoping for another 5 day week . . .

American Government students took the MO Constitution exam this morning. Happily 90% of those tested officially passed! Good work folks! We will spend the rest of the week on an introduction to government unit. Basic principles and terminology will be the major focus. A book assignment is scheduled for Friday.

Sociology II students finished the Education Unit presentations today and we will spend Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday working to complete that unit of study. Wednesday will be our 3rd novel quiz (we are a week behind thanks to the snow). Novel projects are still due on February 22 - don't procrastinate!

IB Psycho's are working to complete their experiments. At this point, we have about 50% done and 50% yet to do. The snow days have really thrown us off track! Monday was a work day and Tuesday thru Friday we will work to complete the Health Psychology mini-unit. Plans for a "quest" next week. Date yet to be determined . . . IA official draft is due February 22 - don't procrastinate!

End of January

All right - finally managed to get a 5 day school week in!!!! American government has continued to work on Missouri Constitution preparation and that test is set for TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 1. Remember it takes a 70% or higher to meet the graduation requirement. We will spend the rest of next week on basic principles of government. Study guides have been passed out for Tuesday's test and all assignments have been graded and returned for use in studying.

IB PSYCHO'S will be running their IA experiments in a variety of classrooms next week. We have continued our study of Health Psychology - primarily focusing in on addictions this week. That will temporarily go on hold next week as there will be a lot of folks out of class conducting IA's. Remember they are due on March 1, 2011.

Sociology II has continued to look at the social conflict paradigm related to education. We will move on into the symbolic interaction paradigm next week. Novel day #3 will be on Wednesday, February 2. Quiz and assignment #3 will be due on that day. Also don't forget the Education unit projects are due on Friday, February 4. All students will make a class presentation that day.

Second Semester

Greetings! Second semester is well on its way, at least trying to around the winter weather and we are working on a variety of things in class.

American Government students are working on their Missouri Government unit which will end with their Mo. Constitution Exam. We had hoped to be done with this by the end of January, stay tuned for the exact test date.

Sociology II students are working on the Education Unit. They have been assigned the unit project due on February 4. There are two options - one individual and one with a partner. They are also reading the novel, There are no Children Here and have quizzes scheduled for the next four Wednesday's. Don't procrastinate on any of the reading or project work. The novel project is due on February 16.

IB Psycho's are working fast and furious on their Internal Assessment. The experiments are scheduled to be completed within the next three weeks. It is important that I have copies of your informed consent today!! Email that to me if you didn't have it on time. Likewise, we are slowly working on Health Psychology as a review topic from first semester and a way to introduce the Abnormal Unit which will be our big one for this semester! Remember snow days are not your friend right now - so don't get behind!!
