End of Semester post

All right, first semester is rapidly coming to an end!

IB Psycho's will be taking their Sociocultural exam today and tomorrow. We will spend next week working on Internal Assessment and final exam preparation. The final is Friday 12/17.

Sociology is wrapping up the Prejudice/Discrimination unit. Quiz will be on Friday 12/10. Third hour final is on 12/17 and fourth hour is on 12/20. Next week we will have an in class project as well as final review activities.

American Government took its EOC exam yesterday and now we are waiting for results. The US Constitution exam is scheduled for Monday 12/13. Students need a 70% or higher to meet district graduation requirements on this test. We are reviewing for this now. Semester final is scheduled for Monday 12/20 - however, any student scoring an Advanced or Proficient on the EOC will be excused from the final.

Busy week ahead!

Congratulations to Titan Football!!

This week in IB Psych we are working on culture and trying to finish our sociocultural unit. Textbook readings are p. 128-135. Students will need their 40 Studies book in class on Wednesday. Thursday we will meet in the LMC computer lab to type IA introductions. Sociocultural exam will be on Thursday 12/9 and Friday 12/10.

American Government class will finish the judicial branch on Monday. Quiz over Article II and III on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday we will begin our EOC review. EOC test date is next Wednesday 12/8. All students that score advanced or proficient will not have to take the semester final!! Best wishes on the EOC!!

Sociology students will continue to work on Prejudice/Discrimination this week. Several in class assignments are scheduled for the upcoming week.

IB Psycho's are beginning the Internal Assessment process. Topics are due 11/17. Pending approval, a detailed outline of deadlines will be handed out. We will cover p. 101-110 in the next few days.

Sociology is still working on social stratification - quiz before Thanksgiving.

End of Daylight Savings Time - YUCK

ok, I am running ahead of schedule for next week - so here it is:

IB Psycho's will spend Monday and Wednesday in the LMC researching topics for their internal assessments. Proposals are due on or before November 17. Students will also have to schedule an appointment with me to discuss their plan prior to approval. We need this all to be done by Thanksgiving vacation at the latest. The rest of the week will be spent on Sociocultural Psychology.

Sociology will take the Socialization unit test on Monday 11/8. Reviews are also due that day. The movie project is due on Thursday 11/11. The rest of the week will be spent on social stratification.

American Government will be working on Article 1 all week. The lawmaking process assignment will be on Thursday.

November 1st

This week IB Psycho's will take the cognitive exam on Tuesday and Wednesday in class. Blue books are needed for Tuesday's portion of the exam. We will then begin the sociocultural unit on Thursday. More information regarding internal assessments will be handed out and presented on Friday in preparation for next week's time in the LMC.

Sociology students will complete the Beauty Myth and life cycle passage portion of our unit this week. Longer range planning calls for a socialization unit test next week on possibly Monday or Tuesday. Plans will be finalized by the end of this week.

American Government students will finish their unit on political participation and elections on Tuesday and take a quiz on Wednesday. We will then begin Article I of the Constitution on Thursday.

Last week in October

IB Psycho's will be working this week to complete the cognitive unit of study. Test dates will be next week on Tuesday 11/2 and Wednesday 11/3. Internal assessment work will begin in the LMC on 11/8 for those that like to know the plans ahead of time.

Sociology will continue to work on the socialization unit. This week we are considering gender roles. The movie project was assigned yesterday and movies are being selected today. This project has 2 parts and the first part is due next Tuesday 11/2. (a,b,c,d,e) LMC time will happen on Wednesday 11/3 and the final product is due on 11/11.

American Government begins the topic of political participation and elections. We began with the political spectrum and will continue on with general notes on the major and minor political parties in the U. S. Book assignment over unit 4 will be on Wednesday 10/27. Political cartoons will be on Friday 10/29.

Week of parent conferences . . .

Well this week gets a little interesting with 2 half days and Friday off, but here is the plan . . .

IB Psycho's will cover material related to the text p. 88-92. Loftus questions are due on Monday. Emotion and Memory will be due on Tuesday. Please make sure to complete those assignments on time. Maps in Your Mind is due October 21.

Sociology will have a quiz on Monday over norms, deviance, and the self. Books are absolutely needed in class on Tuesday for an in-class assignment. Wednesday and Thursday we will begin the topic of roles.

American Government will complete a guided reading assignment on Monday over the Constitution. Tuesday there will be a follow up puzzle activity. Wednesday and Thursday we will begin exploring the political spectrum and political party system.

October 11-15

IB Psycho's will be studying the topic of memory this week. Pages to be covered in class are 72-85. Maps in Your Mind papers are due October 21. That study is in your 40 Studies book.

Sociology students have a vocab assignment in class on Monday. We will then spend Tuesday and Thursday finishing the topic of deviance in our notes. No class on Wednesday due to the all school test morning.

American Government students will finish their notes on the Constitution Convention on Monday. Tuesday the assignment will be to create a mnemonic device for an assigned amendment. Wednesday we have a guest speaker to talk about the fourth amendment. Thursday we will have present our mnemonics/amendments to the class.

I think that about covers it. Busy week coming up!!

First week in October

IB Psycho's worked on their raw data Monday for their descriptive studies which are due on Friday the 8th. We will start the cognitive psychology unit this week. A reading list and terms will be forthcoming.

Sociology is studying the concept of norms and deviance this week. Women in Ads project is due on Friday the 8th.

American Government is finishing 1776 and taking a quiz over the development of democracy on Wednesday October 6. We will also complete our district summative on Friday the 8th. The rest of the week will be spent working on the basic outline of the Constitution.

Last week of September

Good morning Titans! I hope everyone had an awesome Homecoming weekend and is ready to roll this week in class.

IB Psycho's will be involved in a "mini-unit" on research this week. We will take a quiz on Friday. Descriptive Research projects will be assigned on Tuesday and they will be due on October 8th. Class time has been reserved for Monday October 4 to allow groups to work on compiling data. Reading for the week p. 17-37 and p. 388-402.

Sociology students continue their lessons on socialization this week. Nature versus nurture is the major theme of the week. Women in Ad projects will be assigned and they are due on October 8.

American Government continues the unit on Development of Democracy this week. We will finish our notes, watch the movie 1776, and have a quiz on Friday.

Homecoming week!

IB Psycho's are taking their Biological Perspective Exam this week on Monday and Tuesday. We will then begin the topic of research as it relates to psychology.

Sociology will finish their study of research this week and will have a quiz on Wednesday. We will then move on and start the big socialization unit afterwards.

A.G. classes will have a short quiz on Monday over basic principles of government. We will then be working on the Development of American Democracy for the rest of the week. We will have an assignment to be completed in class on Thursday.

Titan Tuesday

This week in Sociology we will be studying the sociological research process. There will be a book assignment by mid-week.

American Government will be working on governmental principles. Preamble presentations will be on Friday.

IB Psycho's are finishing up the Biological perspective this week. Unit Reviews were distributed on Monday and the first exam is next Monday 9/20 and Tuesday 9/21.

4 Day week!

American Government was successful today in passing over 90% of our 6th hour on the Missouri Constitution Exam!! Good work guys. Re-tests will be held on Friday.

Sociology has its intro test Thursday. The review is also due at that time.

IB turned in the first paper of the year and I am in the middle of grading those. The reading assignment for this week is p. 51-60 out of the text. Wednesday's assignment due on Thursday is the Addicted Brain article with questions.

Last week of August . . .

IB Psychology will have its first quiz over the history/intro to Psych on Tuesday 8/31. One Brain or Two will also be assigned Tuesday and is due on Tuesday 9/7. Instructions will be included. As far as in class study goes, we will cover p. 38-50 from the text this week. The brain and the biological basis of behavior will be the topic.

American Government will continue to work on the state government unit. Our Missouri Constitution test is scheduled for Wednesday 8/8. We will have assignments on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Plans call for reviewing to begin on Thursday.

Sociology I students will turn in their observation projects on Wednesday 8/1. Our intro will continue this week and we will focus on culture, and the sociological paradigms.

Monday morning . . .

Good morning! Hoping that each of you had a great weekend and are ready to put in some work this week!!

Sociology students will be continuing their introduction this week. Books will be checked out and an assignment will be due later in the week. Likewise, the observation project will be assigned and will be due on September 1. Remember, if it is typed there is extra credit involved.

American Government will start the week with a US geography assignment. Books will be checked out as well. We will then begin our state government unit covering Missouri and the Missouri Constitution. Plans call for a book assignment on Thursday in class.

IB Psycho's will also get their first book today. p. 1-16 need to be read asap. We will cover our introduction/historical background of psychology this week. Hopefully I am attaching the outline here with this link.

Welcome Back Titans! I am officially back on the blog!! Hope everyone had a great summer vacation and an enjoyable first day back to school.

IB Psycho's will have their first assignment due to me TOMORROW Friday 8/20. Information will be passed out in class today. Likewise, we need to create study groups on Friday so be thinking who would be good for you to work with.

American Government will be working on introduction activities for the next few days. Today we will take the Citizenship Test.

Sociology will be working on introductions of the subject as well as student introductions to the class.
